Liga MB Round 17 (Regular Season): San Salvador beat Salvadorenos in a derby game

There are only two more rounds left in the Regular Season in Liga MB. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from San Salvador: San Salvador (#2) and Salvadorenos (#5). Salvadorenos were crushed at home by 27 points 56-83 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. San Salvador made 20-of-24 free shots (83.3 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 Salvadorenos turnovers. San Salvador looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Salvadorenos' players. The best player for the winners was who had a double-double by scoring 27 points and 13 rebounds. chipped in 19 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Erick Rodriguez produced 10 points and 7 assists for the hosts. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. San Salvador (12-2) have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They maintain second place having just one point less than leader Metapan. Salvadorenos at the other side dropped to the seventh position with eight games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
Another exciting game was played in Cojutepeque between seventh ranked Independiente and 4th placed Cojute where Independiente (7-6) won against Cojute (8-6) on the road 75-64. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Cojute. American forward Noryen Lasley (201, college: Ave Maria) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 17 rebounds. Lincoln Smith contributed with 24 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 11 steals for the winners. Venezuelan guard Maximillion Bell (198-1999, college: Lane) answered with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists for Cojute. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for Independiente. They moved-up to fifth place. Cojute at the other side keeps the fourth position with six games lost. Independiente will play against league's leader Metapan on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Cojute will have a break next round.
Bottom-ranked Brujos (0-13) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 115-105 loss to seventh ranked Santa Ana (7-7) in Santa Ana on Tuesday evening. Xavier Zambrana stepped up with a triple-double by scoring 30 points, 29 rebounds and 11 assists for the winners. Jerry Surrency III responded with 34 points (!!!), 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Santa Ana moved-up to sixth place. Brujos lost their thirteenth game in a row. They still close the standings with 13 games lost. Santa Ana will meet higher ranked A.Lobos (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Brujos will play against Ahuachapan (#9) and hope to get finally their first victory.

Other games of round 17 were very predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:

There was no surprise when 10th ranked Santiagueno (2-12) was crushed on the road by second ranked San Salvador (12-2) 105-74 on Monday. San Salvador dominated down low during the game scoring 84 of its points in the paint compared to Santiagueno's 38. San Salvador forced 23 Santiagueno turnovers and outrebounded them 62-43 including a 40-27 advantage in defensive rebounds. San Salvador looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. stepped up with a double-double by scoring 43 points (!!!) and 17 rebounds for the winners and chipped in 17 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Four San Salvador players scored in double figures. American forward Noryen Lasley (201, college: Ave Maria) responded with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 28 rebounds and Santiago Esperanza scored 24 points. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for San Salvador. They maintain second place with 12-2 record having just one point less than leader Metapan. Santiagueno lost their ninth game in a row. They keep the tenth position with 12 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

No shocking result in a game when third ranked A.Lobos (10-3) defeated at home 9th ranked Ahuachapan (4-9) 94-77 on Monday. A.Lobos outrebounded Ahuachapan 54-42 including 19 on the offensive glass. A.Lobos looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists. stepped up with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds for the winners and chipped in 22 points and 19 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Four A.Lobos players scored in double figures. A.Lobos' coach used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. EJ Blackwell responded with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals and American forward Kordell Brown (203, college: Columbus St.) produced a double-double by scoring 18 points and 14 rebounds. A.Lobos maintains third place with 10-3 record having just two points less than leader Metapan. Loser Ahuachapan keeps the ninth position with nine games lost. A.Lobos will meet at home Santa Ana (#6) in the next round. Ahuachapan will play against Brujos and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
